5 Reasons Your Organisation Should Become a Cancel Loneliness Advocate

Loneliness is more than a personal struggle – it’s a growing public health challenge affecting people of all ages across our communities. Here on the Redcliffe Peninsula, the Cancel Loneliness campaign is working to change that story, one meaningful conversation at a time. And your organisation can be part of the solution.

Becoming a Cancel Loneliness Advocate is a simple, cost-free way to demonstrate your commitment to community wellbeing, strengthen your local connections, and show your customers you care. Here’s five reasons why now is the perfect time to get involved:

1. Boost Community Awareness and Connection

When your organisation becomes a Cancel Loneliness Advocate, you help raise awareness about one of the most pressing yet often hidden issues in our community. Loneliness can affect anyone—young parents, retirees, shift workers, carers, or people living alone.
By displaying your Advocate badge online and in your workplace, you’ll help spread the word about the campaign’s message: Notice, Nudge, Name It, Notify. Every conversation you start, every poster you display, and every social post you share will help neighbours, customers, and colleagues feel more connected.

2. A Simple Way to Show Sincerity to Residents

Today’s customers and community members are looking for more than products or services—they’re looking for authenticity. Becoming a Cancel Loneliness Advocate sends a clear message: we care about the people around us.
It’s a genuine, visible action that tells residents, “You matter to us.” Whether you’re a café greeting regulars by name, a local sports club checking in with members, or a business that prides itself on exceptional customer service, joining this campaign is a natural extension of the kindness you already show.

3. Enjoy Community Sponsorship – For Free

We know budgets are tight, especially for small businesses, not-for-profits, and community groups. That’s why becoming a Cancel Loneliness Advocate is completely free.

Your organisation will be featured on the Band of Brothers Qld Inc. website as a campaign supporter, included in local social media promotions, and acknowledged in community updates.

This means free, positive exposure to thousands of residents – without any ongoing financial commitment.

4. Lead the Way in “Business with Kindness”

Being part of the Cancel Loneliness campaign isn’t just good for the community—it’s good for business. People naturally gravitate towards organisations that show compassion and act with integrity.
When you join, you’ll receive practical tools to integrate kindness into your everyday operations. From conversation starter tips for staff, to printable resources for your workplace, you’ll have simple, effective ways to make kindness part of your brand. Over time, this builds loyalty, trust, and a reputation as a business that genuinely cares.

5. Access Campaign Resources and Support

As an Advocate, you’re not left to figure it out alone. You’ll receive the Cancel Loneliness Advocate Toolkit, packed with ready-to-use resources:

  • Posters and flyers for your workplace
  • Social media templates to share online
  • Tips for recognising signs of loneliness
  • Scripts for starting friendly conversations
  • Information about the Four Action Steps

These tools make it easy for you and your team to take part, whether that’s chatting with customers, checking in with colleagues, or signposting community members to support services.

Kirsty Fields and Leanne Blaney, Founders of local business group, The Ocean Network, have also committed to the cause, bringing their passion for connection and community into the campaign.

Many local shop fronts who have displayed our materials from initial phases of the project, have also put themselves on the Advocate list and keen await their brand new toolkits.

We’re also joined by fellow businesses within the Redcliffe Uniting Community Hub where our offices are basied in Redcliffe. This is already creating a strong base of local champions ready to help residents feel noticed, valued, and connected.
